Affadavits of Witnesses:
Chas. RESIX: Farmer; Burnt Prairie Twp:
"All I know is I had been over in the field working and come down the
road and saw him lying there and thought at first it as a woman; but when
I got up close I knew him. He had his hat on the back of his head.
I didn't touch him for I had always heard not to touch a dead man when
found. I've known him a long time but never knew him to have an enemy."
Richard MASTERSON:
"I've known him for the last 20 years. Some fellows told me he
was dead so I went down there. He was laying face down there and
I don;'t know how many was ahead of me. He never had any enemies and I
am satisfied he never came to his death by any foul means."
Grace MASTERSON:
"He is my Grandfather and he lived with us quite a while.
I wasn't at home but at Mrs. CARTER'S and he come along and I called to
him 2 or 3 times to come to the house and rest and get a drink. He come
but said he was not tired and cared for no water. He sat awhile and
smoked. That was about 4 o'clock. The CHAS. RESIX come along
and said that my randfather was dead. I never heard him complain
any way or never saw anything to make me think he was sick and always appeared
to be in good health."
Mrs. Sam CARTER:
"Mrs. MASTERSON was at my house when they told her and she ask me to
go stay with her while some one went into the field for the men and I did.
I never knew him to have an enemy."
