Land Record

This is a transcribed copy of a land deed that Mary A. Trotter donated to the Olive Branch Baptist Church in 1879.

My Grand-dad was a minister at the Olive Branch Baptist Church and a handwritten copy of this deed was in his possession, of which he gave to my mother in the 1960's.  Parts of it was very hard to read, as sometimes Grand-dad's pen ran out of ink before he 'dipped it'.  A copy of it is also published in the Olive Branch Church book, by Hazel Neff.

Mary A (HURN) married John TROTTER, 1866 in MO.  The story told by members of the church and relatives is as follows:

John and Mary came back to Wayne County, IL, and lived on the land the church and cemetery are now on.  John left Mary with several children for another woman.   After the last time he left, Mary gave most of her land to the church.

None of the spelling has been corrected (note Baptist is spelled Babtist).
