The following information was given to me by the present caretaker of the Ten Post Oak cemetery.  We agreed that I would not mention his name on this site (or any where on the web).

The 'township' mentiond here is Hickory Hill.

Samujel Carter was among the earlist to settle in the township. He and his wife, Rebecca, accompanied by Sameul's two step-sons, Josiah and Elijah Blanchard,, came from Grayson County, Kentucky and pre-empted land in section twenty-one.  Samuel and Rebecca remained in the townshipthe rest of their lives.  They had a daughter named Rebecca.  Elijah and Josiah moved west.  Elijah died in Arkansas and Josiah in Colorado.  The first death of any record has been kept was that of Mrs. Carter.  She died in 1834 and was the first person buried inthe Ten POak Cemetery.  This was a piece of ground surrounded by ten large post oak trees.  From that it gained its name and was known for a long time as "The Ten Post Oaks".  This is located just east of Keensville and contains the graves of more Keens than any other cemetery known.
