CEMETERY and CHURCH HISTORY
submitted by Richard Lee Jr.
Jacob O. Feather was married to Matilda Copeland and to this union were born nine children eight were members of the Methadist Church. Mr. Feathers was a loyal citizen to his country and community. At an early age Mr. Feather had a religious experience and was converted to Jesus Christ. He became a minister and Methodist pastor. He was a devoted Christian and help establish ten Methodist churches in the Wayne County area. In 1962, services were still being held in these churches. He was a highly intelligent man. He could speak and write seven languages. He was a poet, an author, a school teacher and farmer. He shares the honor of starting the first school in Johnsonville. Jacob O. Feather homesteaded near Orchardville near the Ed Vest place.
He gave a piece of land south of Orchardville for a church and cemetery
which is named for him Jacob's Chapel. Jacob O. Feather and
his wife Matilda are both buried in Jacob's Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Feather
was the first to be buried in the cemetery beside the church. We hold in
highest respect and honor this man who gave so much of himself, time, talent
and resources to the cause of Christ and to the welfare of those who would
come after him. His life and his missionary work is an inspiration to us
to day. ( back left side)
Jacob's Chapel church has been and inspirational resource through the
years to the community of Orchardville. It's congregation and the many
pastors who have served there and the revival meetings have contributed
to a better social community. It was sad when a tornado in December of
1971 destroyed the church building. A treasure of memories remain. ( back
