CLARK CEMETERY |
My Hall line ties into this Clark line and other people buried here and that is why I have an interest in this cemetery.
Feb. 2009, a cousin and I tried to find this cemetery so we could take a photo of it and the stones. I remembered 'about how' to find it but we just could not (should have done our homework to find the exact location first?).
In June, 1972, shortly after my Grand-dad died, I drove my grandma to this cemetery. We had to walk from the road, across a field, and barely spotted it. As we walked around, a man came in a truck yelling at us to leave because this was his property. Of course, Grandma argued with him, saying, "it is a cemetery, a FAMILY CEMETERY MIND YOU!", he did not care and we had to leave. As we walked past a few stone, I noted a couple more stones.
Recently I remembered one of Grandma's distant cousins transcribed these stones back in 1963. I spoke with him and got a copy of it.
The Clark cemetery is one of the oldest and most neglect cemeteries in Wayne County, in Big Mound township. It is on private property, I am not sure if the same person owns it today that did back 20-40 yrs. ago. I know this is one that is best to visit in the fall (after a freeze to kill anything that is alive there).
Thank you Cous for sending me your copy and letting me post your findings here.
Smiles!
Dianna
