A big 25th anniversary for Airtex Products is underway here . . . B. Floyd Smith is named to head the Wayne County United Fund drive . . . A new $20,000 fire truck is being purchased by the City of Fairfield . . . McDowell Mart in is named assistant principal at Fairfield High School but will continue as a teacher too . . . The city council studies the need for an additional sewage plant on the west side of town . . . 21,000 silver dollars are put out as part of the Airtex payroll, for the company's 25th anniversary . . .  Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Marks have a new baby girl . . . Sept. 17, 1970

     Mike Tickner, general chairman, says the Fall Fun Fest committee plans to feed 8,000 persons this year.
     The city of Fairfield is buying 220 acres west of the city for an industrial park area.
     The Fairfield city officials are working to end a "dirtywater" problem which has drawn complaints here.
     Clarence Eugene Wilson, convicted here of killing Oblong's police chief, says he will appeal his conviction.
     ASC township committees are elected and a county convention is set.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 62 to 91.
     A first phase meeting here on the White House conference on aging is, announced.
     The Wayne County Fair cleared about $5,000 for its 1970 fair, President Frank Dixon announces.
     Alderman Basil Carter wants a cleanup of ditches in Fairfield, saying they invite rats.
     Mrs. Gibby Andrews is the new secretary in the office of the Jenkins Oil Company.
     The Louis Ratcliff Triangle rock band will play for the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
     Three Wayne County boys leave for induction into the military.  Edward D. McCormick, Kent D. Staggs and Rodney V. Taylor.
     Arthur Hawbecker suffers broken ribs and other injuries in a fall from a roof an in Cisne.
     Mrs. Clarence Blackford suffers cuts on both hands when glass breaks while she was cleaning her refrigerator.
     Mr. and Mrs.  Bart Griffith of Carmi are moving to Fairfield.

Sept. Sept. 21, 1970

     Carroll Hendricks is the senior horse and rider champ of the Wayne County Saddle Club.
     The Moon Rock unveiling will be the first event of the 2nd annual Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 59 to 90.
     George Blackford is elected chairman for the Kon-Tiki senior council, with Preston Mathews as vice president and Mrs. Howard E. Wood as secretary. Leon Bankston serves as treasurer.
     The Silver Star medal award is presented posthumously for Cpl. Michael Dawson.
     John Spence puts the Geff grain elevator and his real estate into a trust and Charles A. French at Wayne County Bank will manage the affairs of the elevator.
     The Rural Resource Center has some 25,000 tulip bulbs available in a beautification effort for Wayne County.
     The VFW is passing petitions this week for release of U.S. war prisoners in Vietnam.
     Brick work is moving along for the new building of the Fairfield National
     The Fairfield Jaycees announce plans for their second annual soapbox derby as a part of the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
     A committee headed by Jerry Vaughan and Russell Blackford raises $5,000 to meet costs of the Fall Fun Fest celebration.
     Press Editor and Mrs.  T.O.  Mathews leave for Washington, D.C., to pick up the Apollo 12 moon rock to be shown at the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
     A new apartment complex is going up on N.E. Second Street.
     Floyd Greenwalt, 69, well-known Wayne City farmer, dies.

Sept. 19, 1985

    A Press story expects overflow crowds for the 17th annual Fairfield Fall Fun Fest. Over two tons of fried chicken will be served to 5,000 or more persons in a free chicken dinner. An Aerospace van is a feature of this year's Fall Fun Fest.
     Another first for this year's Fall Fun Fest will be a 6.2 mile run. Also there will be a 25 mile bike ride.
     Ed Chapman is the first Fun Fest button prize winner.
     The Frontier College Foundation is proceeding on its plans to build a specialized classroom building for the college. Site work will get underway.
     Marion McDowell is named by the Fairfield High School Board to represent the district on a regional reorganization committee.
     Fifty-seven young people will compete in the Prince and Princess pageant of the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest. Their photos appear in the Press.
     Nelson Kirkwood, an Airtex official, buys the Morris Wagner home in Kincaid Acres, near the golf course.
     A Kroger official says a new Kroger Store building next to Wal-Mart will not be constructed until next year.
     Mrs. Agnes Huddelson, 78, dies in Michigan.
     Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walter, of rural Cisne, are wed fifty years.
     Mike Archer, from Forreston, is a new member of the Wayne County soil survey  team.
     Evelyn Doty, Kenneth Meritt and Clifford Reever are on the ballot for Fairfield Country Club board posts. Verne Vaughn may be a write-in candidate.
     The Greater Wabash Baptist Association will hold its 103th annual meeting at Mt. Carmel. Ron Brand of Fairfield is the retiring Moderator.
     Oak Valley Free Will Baptist Church near Geff will dedicate its new building.

     Gene McCulley, Fairfield oil man, died in a tractor mishap.
     The Fairfield Coin Club show's top prize will be a $20 gold piece.
     Brad Turner is a new salesman for Brown Chevrolet.
     The Press receives an advertisement for a public auction of equipment in the closed Fairfield Garment Company building and other closed R & M Kaufmann plants.
     Robert Wheeler, retired Mill Shoals postmaster, undergoes surgery at a St. Louis hospital.
     A record 177 persons have made reservations for the 21st annual dinner meeting of the Fairfield Oldtimers Alumni and Athletic Association.
     Shelly Vaughan, Susan Wilson and Lori Sullivan are Fairfield High homecoming queen candidates.
     The state insists that all of its jail specifications be met in Wayne County
     Debbie Gardner, of Evansville, is the women's winner in the Fun Fest 10,000 meter run.
     Charlie C. Mix, 70, well-known Cisne businessman, dies.
     C. F. Beiswenger has top antique car in judging at the Fall Fun Fest.
     Denny Fry and Michelle Doty are crowned Prince and Princess at the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.
