     Joe Puckett, of Evansville, has moved back to Fairfield, after 25 years in
the Indiana city.
     Gara Lea Hamlin, of McLeansboro, is crowned the new Miss Wayne-White Coop queen.  Debra Susan Deaton, of Mill Shoals, is first runner-up.  She was also named Miss Congeniality. Nikki Riley, Cisne, is retiring queen.
     The city of Fairfield finds its electric bonding power sharply curtailed by plans to proceed on a new power project.      Republic Oil hits a 115 barrels per day oil well on the Donald wheat No. 3, near Enterprise.
     The city of Fairfield trades a West Main street site to businessman Leland Meeks for land he owned near the light plant.
     An all-girls auto thrill show is a highlight of entertainment for next week's Wayne County Fair. A season gate ticket is $1.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 52 to 88.
     Mr. and Mrs. John Robison, Jr., move from 609 Park Avenue to 308 West Center, a property they purchased from Clarence Scott.
     Two Wayne County draft registrants leave for induction into the military.
     An evangelistic rally will open the county fair.
     Anderson Bakery, at 613 West Main, is opening for business. Mr. and Mrs. Ual Anderson are the owners.
     Roger Bigler's lumber business, a wholesale service, is now selling at retail
     The Fairfield Elks Lodge suspends operations for a 30 day-period as part of a settlement of an injunction suit against the club.
     Miss Alta Tickner is burned while lighting her gas stove.

July 13, 1970

      Rev. H. Hilton Longberry, former pastor of the Fairfield First Methodist Church, dies at Downers Grove.
     George Deem is continued as president of the Wayne-white Counties Electric
     Vern Tickner is installed as president of the Fairfield Lions Club.
     More than 100 persons attend an open house for the new Wayne City teen center.
     Police report a $3,000 loss in a break-in at the Eckleberry Standard Service Station.
     Two new FCHS teachers are employed. One is Jerry Ray McNeil, 22, of Wayne City; and the other is Janalee Felix Garwood, a former Fairfield girl.
     Republicans and Democrats hold conventions and pick their party candidates for the Illinois Supreme Court.
     Fire and safety improvements are planned for the North Side Grade School.
     Dissident Republicans to the south are putting up a candidate to Oppose Rep. Ben Blades, of Fairfield.
     Population figures show Wayne County township population changes range from 1 percent up to a drop of 48 percent.
     James Stroud is to be installed as the Anthony Wayne American Legion commander.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 55 to 89.
     Bro. Bill Hughes resigns as pastor of the Geff Christian Church. He is
moving to the Tennessee-West Virginia area.
     Marriage license: Larry Lawrence Kauble and Sharon Lynn Dietz.

     The Wayne County Board will draw up plans for a new $750,000 jail.
     The Fairfield Economic Development Commission is cataloging existent vacant buildings for commercial use.
     Marriage licenses: David Carl Lowery and Betty Jo Heifner; Burl Ray Young and Elizabeth Ann Williams.
     Joe Fleming, longtime Fairfield public accountant, will speak at the FCHS Oldtimers dinner meeting in October.
     Michael C. Irwin. Fairfield Center Street principal, resigns. He takes a principal's job at the Pope County High School.
     The Bruce Gualdoni-Harold Hastings business building on West Main is gutted by fire. It had just been remodeled.
     City police break-up a seven person theft ring, with much loot recovered.
     Wayne County voters will be asked to approve road tax and bridge tax hikes in November.
     Wildon Leinard, 63, veteran Airtex worker, dies at his home here.
     Joe Scoville, 71, retired auto bodyman, dies.
     Druthers Restaurant is sponsoring a largest zucchini contest.
     A new social advocacy group, "Break-Through" is organized here, with Anita Keck elected president, Robert Lane is vice president.
     The Wayne County oil scene is busy, with 12 oil tests now drilling in the county. Three are deep Dutch Creek tests.
     A Toy Box olympics competition will be held at the FCHS track field.
     A major Fairfield to Clay City road project gets the axe from the state.

July 15 1985

     The Fairfield High Class of 1950 holds a 35th year reunion.
     The Illinois Geological Survey plans to drill the deepest hole in Illinois history, down 30,000 feet, a three year project.
     John Walker, James New and Richard Windland will seek re-election to the Jasper School board.
     Mary R. Patridge of Clay City, is named SWAN Volunteer of the year.
     Airtex announces plans for a 60,000 square foot shipping department building near Plant 2.
     The Press reports the Fairfield Racquet Club may not re-open this fall.
     Fairfield temps range from 59 to 96.
     The Kissner-Weaver Farm Equipment company at Wayne City will be closing this fall.
    The Soil District will sponsor a conservation airlift here Sunday.
     Shawn Maxham breaks his right leg at the Fairfield swimming pool.
     Arson is expected in a fire which guts a mobile home south of Fairfield  owned by Steve Yarbor.
     The Elm River Township board installs a new dumpster at the townhall on the Mt. Erie blacktop.
     Fairfield High teachers set an $1800 pay hike for the coming year, a 6.5 percent the next year and another $1800 the third year of a new contract.
