    The picture was taken at Schurr's Machine Shop in Enterprise on June 23, 1915.  It was sent by William Schurr to Elwell Holman of rural Cisne, thanking him for his patronage.

Walter Childress of Fairfield retires as a railway mail clerk.  He had traveled over 2 million miles in the 37 years he had served Uncle Sam . .  . Miss Margaret Spence daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Spence of Geff, is on the honor roll at MacMurray College . . . Leo McLean, former Fairfield garageman, buys the William Nichols paint shop property on East Court and will construct a modern new business building there .. . Sgt. Ivan Dale Barker, brother of Eula and Robley Barker here, is reported missing over Tinian . . . The War Department notifies Mr. and Mrs. George C. Braddy, former residents of Keenes, now of Steward, that their son, Pvt. George C. Braddy, dies aboard a Japanese prison ship . . . T.      Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hardy, from England, settle in for their stay in Fairfield, where he will preach several weeks at the First United Methodist Church.
     F-W Mfg. temporarily ends manufacturing at Wayne City.
     Fairfield rural residents will get improved phone service in 1971 when GTE will cut their 10 party lines to four party service.
     Gary Emory is the new Metropolitan Insurance agent in Fairfield.
     David Gershenson, a medical student in Nashville, Tenn., is in summer practice here, assisting his father, Dr. D. A. Gershenson, longtime Fairfield family physician.
    The pair sought for the Mt. Erie State Bank robbery are caught at Danville.
Most of the $17,000 loot they took is recovered.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 62 to 97.
     A former Fairfield man takes a car of Brown Chevrolet out for a ride, shows
it to his mom and dad and then takes off. He is now being sought by police.
     A majority of Southern Illinois Republican chairmen endorse Judge William
Eovaldi, of Benton, for nomination to the Illinois Supreme Court.
     County officials see a 10 to 20 percent drop in county tax revenue in 1971.

     Premature lighting of the American flag and one helper throwing his lighting flare in the water sends most of the crowd home early at the Fairfield fireworks

     Many area motorists are resisting the wearing of seat belts. A Press survey showed 100 Fairfield drivers wearing, them and 213 not wearing them.
     Big fireworks shows a re set for Fairfield and Wayne City.
     The Press reports that Wayne County tax bills will be about the same as last year. Property valuations are down about four percent, says County Clerk Evelyn Hodges.
     The Fairfield Retail Merchants are planning for their annual Sidewalk Days sale in late July.
     Two Illinois Public Health officials caution Fairfield Fall Fun Fest officials on steps to take in frying and serving free fried chicken at the fall celebration.
     Box seat tickets for the county fair entertainment go on sale.  There's a $75 price for a box seat section of four seats for the week.
     Other area towns are seeking a move of Wayne City Products, Inc., to their communities.
     Roy and Bonnie Atwood, of Cisne are new owners of the Western Auto Store in Cisne.  Longtime owners Burl and Opal Cates have operated the store 24 years.

     Forrest Ruckman, 67, retired Fairfield butcher, dies at an Evansville hospital.

    The Fairfield Jaycees experience a nightmare at their big Fairfield fireworks show, as their cache of fireworks catches fire and explodes. Nine
people are injured.
     Wayne County schools will get an extra $210,000 in state aid for the coming

     A free Singles Club is being formed in the Fairfield area.
     Fairfield Memorial Hospital raises its room rates eight dollars a day.
     The Press says the state is expected to fund road work for the Clay City to Fairfield.
     The Wayne County Press is named a 1985 Centennial Business.
     Mrs. May Wood, retired Ellery postmistress, dies at Carmi at age 94.
     Frank Cavanaugh, Airtex VP of sales, is taking his retirement.
