A surprise celebration in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bryant Johnson was held in fellowship hall of First Baptist Church Saturday night in honor of the couple's 40th wedding anniversary.     Mrs. Johnson is the former Mary Rose Simpson daughter of Mrs. Lulu Simpson and the late Miles Simpson, of Fairfield.

The party was hosted by Mrs. Harold M. Simpson assisted by Mrs. Robert Simpson, Mrs. Fred Taylor, Mrs. Clay Simpson and Mrs. Gary Templeman.

The honorees received many lovely gifts and cards.  Cheryl Durand, a grand-daughter of the Johnsons, served the anniversary cake.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson made their home in Chicago for a number of years, moving back to Wayne county in 1983. Mr. Johnson is retired from Union Station in Chicago and Mrs. Johnson from a greeting card company in that city. They now reside in the Miles Simpson farm home near Richland Church.

All but two of the twelve Simpson children were present for the Occasion. Unable to join the group were two brothers, Lindy, of Moore, Okla., and Orion, of O'Fallon. About fifty were present.

Mary Rose's mother, Mrs Lulu Simpson and Lulu's sister, Elsie Carter, of Fairfield, who will celebrate August birthdays were able to be present and were also honored with a birthday cakeMrs. Simpson will be 94, and Mrs. Carter, 90.

Attending from out of town were the Johnson's daughter, Barbara and Dave Durand and children Stephen, Cheryl and Brian of Houston, Texas; long time friends John and Lila Chatffeld of Brookfield; Bill and Maxine Simpson and daughter Darla of Franklin Grove; Craig and Angie Wright of Elgin and Mrs. Virginia Moore, of Kankakee.
