NOBLE BARKER
Wayne County Gunner
Missing Since Jan. 14

S/Sgt. Noble E. Barker has been missing over Germany since Jan. 14. He was with the 390th Bomb Gp., 568th Sq. based in England. He was the rear gunner on a Flying Fortress. After completing 28 missions, he was at the Flak House for a rest period. He returned to his base about about Jan. 11, and it is believed that he didn’t return from his 29th mission. He had received the Air Medal and two Oak Leaf Clusters.

S/Sgt. Barker was inducted into the Army Feb. 17, 1943. Prior to this he was a stdent at Southern Illinois Normal University. His brother Pvt. Ivan Dale Barker is in the Army Air Corps, and is stationed at Great Bend, Kansas. His sister, Ensign Geneva Barker of the Navy Nurse Corps, is at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. He is a brother of Misses Eula and Robley Barker of this city and his grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A. Cariens of Cisne.

Body Is Returned
Here For Burial

The casketed remains of Staff Sergeant Noble E. Barker, who was killed during World War II, arrived here Wednesday at 1:50 p.m. on the Southern Railway and were taken to the Dixon and Crippin Funeral Home where they will remain until the funeral hour.

Last rites will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the New Salem Methodist church southwest of Cisne, with Kent M. Dale and the Rev. L.B. Howard officiating.

Interment will be in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery here. Members of local veterans organizations will be in charge of the military rites.

Sgt. Barker was born at Cisne November 21, 1923, and died at Oerben, Germany, January 14, 1945.
