WILLIAM SIMPSON

State of Illinois-Wayne County
Aug. 29, 1833 William Simpson aged 77 years appeared before Judge William Wilson to get pension.

He said in Sept. 1777, that he resided in Prince William County Virginia and entered service as volunteer in Militia.  After he joined they marched to near Germantown under command of Washington.  He remained with the Army for 3 months and was discharged in Dec. 1777.  In 1781, he entered service again and marched to Williamsburg/  Je was discharged in April 1781.

William said he was born Oct. 14, 1755 in Prince William County, Virginia, and lived there until about 4 years after the close of War.  He removed to Halifax County for 8 years, then to Henry County for 10 years.  Then  he moved to Tennessee and lived there 11 years then he moved to Illinois.

William stated that Archibald Roberts,  a Minister of the Gospel, and Ephraim Meritt of Wayne County could testify to character and his Revolutionary service.

State of Illinois-White County  Commissioner Court  June term 1844
On June 3, 1844 Toliver Simpson appeared to obtain benefits for the surviving children of William and Elizabeth Simpson. Tpliver states his father was allowed $20.00 per annum, and that William died on Mar 21, 1839 or there abouts.  That his mother, Elizabeth, died on June 7, 1839.

The children living at time of her death were:Toliver,  Eddy(Nixon), William,  Sucky(Gray), Zachariah, Peggy(Musgrave), Daniel, and Betsey(Williams).

Stated parents married about 1784, and he had book to show ages of children's birth.

Letter replying to request by Toliver to obtain benefits for children states it was denied, as at that time the widow would not have been eligible so therefore neither were children.

James Cheshier appeared Dec. 25, 1843 and swore to his knowledge of marriage of his cousin Elizabeth Cheshier to William Simpson when both lived in Virginia, and that William was a soldier in Revolutionary War.

Two letters requesting DAR information. One from a Mrs. George Rennison West of L.A., Calif., and Mrs R.E. Wears dated 1934. In the replies to them listed the children of William and Elizabeth Simpson as follows:

To settle estate of late William and Elizabeth Simpson, their son Toliver who was living in county was appointed administrator. This was dated and signed on Oct. 19,1842 by John Brown who was the Probate Justice in Fairfield, Illinois.
