Jerilyn comments:
(I had a Lura Stanley born November 1851 and a William A. Stanley born Dec. 1867 but they aren't listed as children in the pension file so must not belong to this family - In the 1880 census he lists this William as a son and in the 1900 census William of this age is living 2 doors away so I don't know what to think - surely he knows he had this son.  Perhaps he belonged to a sibling and he just called him a son. - my comments.)

Entered service October 16, 1861, as private in company H of the 73rd regiment of Ohio commanded by Captains Jno Eyrehurst and McDrary at Downington, Ohio.

Enrolled at Chillicothe, OH on October 16, 1861.

Discharged December 31, 1864 at Savannah, Georgia

In 1887 he was 57 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, fair complexion, sandy hair and gray eyes.

March 1862 at Clarksburg, Virginia he contracted typhoid fever from exposure affecting his head and also causing chronic diarrhea.  At Gettysburg, PA he received gun-shot wound of head in action and was treated in hospitals at both Clarksburg, VA and Washington D.C.
