On 15 Mar., 1865, Daniel re-enlisted for another year in Co. C., 18th IL Volunteers.  The following are his words to his family as best I could transcribe them.
Letter Two: 

no date but it must have been sometime after March 25, 1865. Daniel's little sister Nancy J. POTTER had died Mar. 25, 1865. 

Dear littel vira I am going to rite you a few lines to let you now how I am getting along I have been purty sick vira you have lost all the littel sister you had, but vira you have (a) Brother that loves you Dearly well vira you must be a good girl well I hant Sent you that dress but in tend to bring it when I come home wich I think I will if the lord Spairs me wich I think he will if he had in tended to take me away think he would have don it this time because I was mity sick vira you must rite to your Brother Dan Potter. 
..........children to be good children and I will try to be tell them all to rite I am Sorterdoubtful that uncle Dan Shiped off and don't intend to come back Thiss paper is so ruff turn over....
