On 15 Mar., 1865, Daniel re-enlisted for another year in Co. C., 18th IL Volunteers.  The following are his words to his family as best I could transcribe them.

 
Letter One:

"March the 18th, 1865 
Camp Butler Ills 

My Dear friends I this evening Seat myself to let you now that I am well.  I hope that these few lines comes to hand they may find you enjoying the Same god's blessing uncle Dan (HAYNES) left here the other Day and I don't no whare he is gon he sayed that he wold be back in 3 days I wold have to leave here tomorrow but......... 

Well --------- is here I am looking for Uncle Dan back tonite or in the morning tell nan (Nancy) and vira (Elvira) that I can't send them that Dress that I can't git to Springfield to get it tell grandpap that I will Send him some money before long that I cant sendit now and Send it Safe tell uncle Tom (CURRY) and aunt creat (Lucretia HAYNES CURRY) that I will rite as soon as_________

Thiss place is mity Sickley I can see them all hours in the Day going to the hospital I must close for the male is going to Start rite and direct to camp butler Ills18 n Ill K Co. in cear of Capt jabel anderson kiss that littel sweet thing off aunt creats (Lucretia HAYNES CURRY) for me will you
