Since the courthouse does not have any marriage records prior to the fire, it is hard to get the information. But, lucky for us, the information on this page was was written in the Wayne & Clay County History book (printed 1884), Chapter 7. That book is now on this web site.
To read more on the 'Early Marriages' and other information, see HISTORY --> 1884 BookThere is a confusion of one marriage. As in the book, in the one paragraph, it has, " the 19 of November, 1820, James Fitzgerald ..." I do not know if this was a type-o and the year should be 1821 or if this marriage date should be listed with the year prior. I typed this as in the book.
As mentioned on the FIRST TO ... page, first marriage license was issued on June 8, 1819 to William CLARK and Peggy CARSON.
