James Washington Trotter

JAMES WASHINGTON TROTTER, a farmer from the Enterprise PO, was born in Bedford Township, of Wayne Co., IL. He was born Apr 26, 1830, son of Elisha B. and Amelia (WATKINS) TROTTER. Elisha and Amelia (natives of KY.) and a grandson of William and Sarah TROTTER.

William TROTTER served in the War of 1812. He had two sons that served in the Black Hawk War and one son, Shirley, (also living in Wayne Co.) served both, the Mexcian and Civil Wars.

Elisha TROTTER was born in 1801 and came to Wayne County with his father about 1827. He was, by occupation, a tiller of the soil.    Elisha and Amelia had nine children, of whch seven are now living, as follow: Nancy, James W, Sarah, Martha, Samuel W, Mary and S. Jasper.

JAMES WASHINGTON TROTTER has resided in Wayne county all his life. He possesses farm property to the extent of 440 acres, and for many years past has raised and dealt in stock on a large scale. He married Polly McCormick, a daughter of William McCormick, one of Wayne County's first settlers, who assisted in the original surveying of it.

Mr. and Mrs. James Washington TROTTER are the parents of thirteen children, of whom nine survive. Politically Mr. Trotter is a democrat.
