Solomon Yates

1884 Biographical Sketches of Bedford Twp

YATES, SOLOMON,    farmer P.O. Rinard, is one of the more substantial farmers of Bedford Township.  He is a native of Lawrence County, Ohio, and was born September 22, 1835, the eldest child of George Yates, who died as did his wife also, when Solomon was small.  The latter was taken and raised by an uncle, Joseph Yates, with whom he remained until coming to Wayne County, Ohio in 1855.   With the exception of a short period of time, Mr. Yates has been a resident here ever since.  He has a farm of 400 acres, which is devoted to stock-raising and general farming.  He made all the improvements upon the place himself, and they include a substantial and commodious residence.

Mr. Yates married Sarah E. Summers, a daughter of Marcus Summers, a farmer in Clay County, Ind. This union has given three children

  1. James F.
  2. Martin L.
  3. Luella B.

Mr. Yates and family are members of the Baptist Church.

Politically, he is a Democrat, but votes for the man rather than the party.

I believe the reference to Wayne County, Ohio may be a mistake by the publisher.
