1884 Biographical Sketches of Bedford Twp

STATES, GEORGE W., farmer, P. O. Cisne, was born in Monroe County, Ohio. October 14, 1851. He has been a resident of Wayne County for several years. August 8, 1878, he married his second and present wife, Agnes A. (Brown) Deselues, born August 14, 1845, a daughter of Elihu and Ruthana (Gregg) Brown, and widow of John Deselues, whom she married September 8, 1867. He died January 28, 1874.

He came from Ohio, his native State, to Indiana, and thence to Wayne County. He served four years in the late war, in the First Missouri-Engineer Corps, but was a member of an Illinois company. He also filled the office of Township Clerk and Collector.

By him Mrs. States has three children-

  1. William D. born June 8, 1868
  2. Alice N., November 30 1870
  3. Mary E.,February 17, 1873

Mr. and Mrs. States are the parents of two children--Sylvia D., born January 28, 1880 and Jennie B., April 10, 1882.

Subject and wife are members of the Christian Church and in polities, he is a Republican.

Their farm consists of eighty acres, which is de voted to general farming.

The first three children are surely the children of Agnes A. Brown Deselues by her first marriage to John Deselues but the way the bio was written was confusing.
