Obituary

LAWRENCE J. COOK


Lawrence J. Cook,  81, of Depue went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 355PM on Thursday 31 March (2005) at St Margarets Hospital In Spring Valley.

Born April 13, 1923 in Keens, Illinois, he was the son of Oscar and Laura (Wolfe) Cook.   He married Juanita L. Lowery on May 31, 1941. She died in August of 1993.   He married Bernice Mitchell on 12 March 1994.   She survives.   He was preceded in death by one sister Bessie (Richard) Petty of Clay City, IL his twin brother Lowell (Evelyn), Dana, IL and his brother Roy (Lucille) of Flora, IL.   He is survived by one brother Dale (Mary Ann) of Arkdale, WI and one sister Eva (Otho) Bernard of Chenoa, IL.

Surviving are sons: David of Cisne, IL, Dennis (Janet) of Bullhead City, AZ, Dannie (Lynn) of Streator, IL and Steven (Sandie) of Greenville, TN and daughters: Patricia (David) JenkinsLisa (David) Rhodes of Long Point, IL , Elaine (Don) Goerne &Joyce Cook of Streator, IL, Step Children: Arthur (Shirley) LaVallee of Berrien Springs, MI, Carol (Florian) Perciach of Waconda, IL and Linda Dodson of Depue, IL. He has 33 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by sons NeilMichael and daughters LorettaPhyllis.

He served in the United States Army in 1944. He farmed in southern Illinois and the Long Point area,   was employed at Rittenhouse and Sons in Long Point for several years, then was custodian of the Long Point Grade School until it closed, a guard at the Pontiac Correctional Prison  and was an equipment operator on the New York Central & CONRAIL Railroads for over 20 years retiring in 1987.

Visitation services will be held at Winterowd - Hagi Funeral Home at 305 S. Park St, Streator, IL from 3pm to 5pm Sunday 3 April.   Funeral services will be held at the same location on Monday 4 April, beginning at 11am and burial will be in the Long Point Cemetery.   Following the services, the Assembly of God Church, at 1902 South Church St., (old Wilson School building) will serve a family luncheon.

Pall bearers will be the grandsons of Lawrence and honorary pallbearers will be the grandaughters.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Building Fund of the 7th Day Advent Church of Princeton, IL.   Lawrence was extremely active in working towards the building of the new church.

Lawrence served as local elder in the 7th Day Advent Church of Princeton.   Prior to that, he served as elder and deacon of the Long Point Christian Church for over 20 years.
