LESLIE D. BECK DIES
FOLLOWING OPERATION

Well-known Former Fairfield Boy
Succumbs to Serious
Brain Operation In St. Louis

Leslie D. Beck, 49, well-known former Fairfield resident, succumbed to a serious brain operation in the St. John's hospital in St. Louis, at 12:15 o'clock Thursday morning.

Mr. Beck had been making his home in Ashley since 1941, where he was manager of the Southern Illinois Lumber yard.

For several years he had been the victim of severe headaches, and during the past five months his condition became more serious. He retired from active work about two months ago.

Two weeks ago he entered the hospital and at one o'clock on Wednesday he submitted to an operation for the removal of a webb-like growth from his brain. He was on the operating table seven hours and never recovered.

The remains were returned to the Dixon-Crippen funeral home here. Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Kent Dale with burial in the Maple Hill cemetery.
