Mrs. Canzada (Whitson) Turney

Died at her home in Southern Barnhill, Wayne county, Ill., of typho-malaria, Mrs. Canzada Turney, wife of T. J. Turney. She was born January 12, 1832, and died Oct. 1, 1887. She died as she had lived, in the full confidence of a blissful immortality, and enjoying the esteem and loving respect of a large circle of acquaintances, which was fully attested by the large crowd who attended the funeral, and the many tears shed by sympathizing friends.

Mrs. Turney had been a faithful member of the Christian church for over twenty years and left such a record of devotion to the loving Master, as to give sweet assurance to the bereaved companion, heart-broken children, and sorrowing relatives and friends, that their loss was her infinite gain. Thus settling the sad, bitter cup of sorrow with the happy reflections that the sad, sorrowing, weary soul is at rest. Everything was done, it seems, that could be done to relieve her suffering, and restore her to health and friends, but,

“Except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it; except the Lord keeps the city the watchmen waketh in vain. It is vain to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrow; for so He giveth His beloved sleep.”

“Cease then fond nature, cease thy tears, Religion points on high; There everlasting spring abides, And joys that cannot die.” J. S. R.
