LUKE WHITSON

Luke, son of James and Margaret Whitson, was born in Wayne county, Illinois, April 19, 1858. He was united in Marriage, September 21, 1879, with Martha Matilda Weaver. Three children, two sons, and a daughter were born to this union. The active years of his life were spent in the vicinity of Johnsonville.

Early in life he united with the General Baptist church at Round Prairie, and remained a faithful member throughout his life. He was an influential and highly respected citizen, a faithful companion, a kind father and a good neighbor and friend.

He has been in failing health for several years following a stroke of paralysis. The end came at the Kankakee state hospital, October 4, 1932, age 74 years, 5 months and 15 days.

He is survived by his aged companion, two sons, Cloyd, of Glendale, Calfornia, and Irl, of Onarga; one daughter, Cora, the wife of Dr. E. A. Bing, of Gilbert, Arkansas, three brothers, Dick, of Winona, and Ed and William, of Kansas; one half-brother, (??), of northern Illinois, and eight grandchildren.

The body was returned to Cisne where funeral services were conducted at the home of Clem Long by Eld. W. D. Crippin, Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Interment was in the Johnsonville cemetery.
