C. C. ALEXANDER’s Death Sudden

A former Fairfield man died at his home in Denver Colorado.

Just as we were going to press last Wednesday we received a message bearing the brief announcement of the death of Calvin C. ALEXANDER at his home in Denver Co.  No details were given.  Later word from Denver said that he died of rheumatism of the heart and was ill but about 45 minutes.  The following sketch of the deceased was prepared for publication.

Calvin C. ALEXANDER was born September 1, 1845 (OH), died Wednesday, February 19, 1913 at... O’clock, age 67 years, 3 months and 18 days.  His father and mother died when he was a small boy.  (parents were  Philip ALEXANDER and Rebecca LLOYD ALEXANDER BROWN)

He enlisted in the 124th Illinois Regiment in the Civil War at the age of 17, but was rejected on account of his age and health.  He lived with Col. (and Judge) Thomas S. KASEY for several years and went to Mt. Vernon IL.  Then he studied medicine under Dr. KASEY , of Joliet IL., but his health failed and he studied Civil Engineering on account of his love of out door work.  He helped lay out the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern which came through Wayne County and had charge of said railroad until finished, then he was connected with the main line of Baltimore and Ohio and for a time was its’ chief engineer.  He was a High degree Mason.  He taught school in southeast Missouri and in Wayne County at Oakland two terms and at Hazel Grove part of one term, but sickness interfered.  That was in 1879.  He had a first grade certificate.  He was married in Cincinnati, Ohio about the year 1885.  He leaves a wife, two daughters, Mary and Della to mourn his loss.  He had many relatives and friends in Wayne County.  He was related to all of the ALEXANDER, LLOYD, WORLEY, COX, SHAEFFERS, BOGGS, Mr. N. J. ODELL and Mrs. Mary HEAD.  Calvin ALEXANDER was a good man.  Never did anybody any harm.  He was a Bible reader, but never belonged o any Church.  He was a brother-in-law to A. H. POTTER.
