Alice Burkett White

Mrs. Alice White
Passed Away Saturday

Alice, the youngest daughter of Levi and Nancy Chapman Burkett, was born in Berry township, Wayne County, Ill., March 28, 1852.  She passed away at the home of her son, James S. White, near Covington, age 85 years and six days.

At the early age of sixteen years, she was converted at the Brown church and remained a faithful Christian until the end.  She was the last survivor of her family, three brothers and two sisters having preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage to Joseph B. White, on December 25, 1875.  To this union were born six children:  William L., Nancy E., Lillie, Joseph R., James S., and Catherine.

Her husband preceded her in death May 13, 1895.  After this loss she bravely assumed the responsibility of both father and mother.  She also reared to manhood an orphan boy, John Hayes, who preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her departure six children: William L. White, Mrs. Clede Gaston, Mrs. A. J. Robertson, Joseph R. White, James S. White and Mrs. A. P. Arney, also 23 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Victory Church o April 5, 1937, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. M. A. Sanders fficiating.  Interment was in Bovee Cemetery.
