Mr. K. Verdaine Hooper wrote:
The following is from one of the Fairfield newspapers.  My grandmother never forsaw the need for details on these obituaries.  She did date this 1919.

MRS. JOHN M. DAY DIES

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Day, 83, sister of Mrs. Shields Wilson, of this city and widow of the late Judge John M. Day, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August Z9th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. V. B. Albrecht, in Dayton, Ohio. She had been in failing health the past three years suffering from hardening of the arteries and other complications. For the past six months she had been bedfast.

Following funeral services in Dayton, the body was shipped to Fairfield and funeral services were conducted at the Nale funeral home on Saturday afternoon by Dr. C.L. Peterson. Burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Berst, second child of John David and Mary (Ellenberger) Berst, was born in Union Deposit, Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, September 24th, 1861.  She moved with her family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and later, about 1868, moved to Wayne county lllinois.

She was united in marriage to John Marshall Day on December 28th, 1886 and to this union four children were born: Clara Belle, John Hamilton, Lulu Frances, and Charles Hiser. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 18, 1918.  In December of that year she moved with her family to Pique, Ohio.  Following the death of her daughter Clara in August, 1930 she made her home for the remainder of her life with her daughter, Lulu Frances, Mrs. V. B. Albrecht.

She was converted to Christianity when a young girl and united with the Union Cumberland  Presbyterian church. Following her marriage she and her husband joined the Merriam Methodist church. In 1898 the family moved to Fairfield where she and Mr. Day were active in buildmg the Ellen Moore Mission which later on was organized into the Ellen Moore M. E. church. In Piqua. Ohio, her membership was with the Grace Methodist church and in Dayton she was a member of the United Brethren church, where she was an active worker.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Albrecht, a son John H. Day, of Memphis, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Shields Wilson of Fairfield and a brother John E. Berst of Lockport, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Albreeht, of Dayton; Mr, and Mrs. J. H. Day, of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Carmon Lloyd-Arnold, a granddaughter, of Tipp. Ohio, accompanied the body here.
