OBITUARY

Mr. K. Verdaine Hooper wrote:
The following is from one of the Fairfield newspapers.  My grandmother never forsaw the need for details on these obituaries.  She did date this 1919.

PHOEBE CAROLINE WILSON

Mrs. Phoebe Caroline Neal-Wilson, one of the early citizens of this county passed away   last Thursday. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, by her old friend and former pastor, Rev. J. W. Borah, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends at the Union C. P. Church. The children living away who were able to be present were: Rev. Geo. A. Wilson. Tallula, Ill., Mrs. Mary V. Bullock, Clarinda, Iowa;  Mrs. Blanche Huber, Aurora, Ill.

Phoebe Caroline Neal was born January 13, 1842.  She was born and reared in this community. She was united in marriage to James S. Wilson, July 14, 1859.

There were born to this union nine children---three having precededd their mother in death--Phoebe Lurenna, Rose and Theodore. Six living, five of whom were in attendance at the funeral, George A., Tullula, III.; Shields and J. C., of Fairfield, Ill.; Jennie Hindman, San Diego, Calif.; Mary V, Bullock, Clarinda, Iowa; and Blanche Huber, Aurora, Ill., and eleven grandchildren. She is the last her immrdiate family  of eight children.

She professed religion in early life and united with this church which was organized in her father's house, Andrew Neal.  She passed away the 27th day of January, 1927.  Age 85 years and 11 days.
