Lavern Barnard,
Wayne City Retired Businessman,
Dies

A former Wayne City businessman, Lavern Barnard, 60, of Centralia, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, November 30, 1987 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis following a heart attack.

According to a family member, Mr. Barnard had suffered from heart problems in the past and had been in ill health for some time.

Services Held

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Wayne City First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Shelton officiating. Burial followed inthe Thomason Cemetery.

Mr. Barnard was born in Wayne County on April 5, 1927, the son of Arthur and May (Tolbert) Barnard. In June 1944, he married the former Doris Draper and she survives.

He grew up and attended school in the area north of Wayne City.

He was the owner and operator of Barnards Tire Service in Wayne City for several years and up until his retirement. He was in business in Wayne City for 30 years.

Mr. Barnard was a member of the Odin First Baptist Church.

The Survivors

Among survivors are his wife Doris of Centralia; one daughter, Mrs. Sandy Simpson; two brothers, Art Barnard and Estel Barnard; one sister, Florence Bullard; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son.
