ANDREW JACKSON MAYO

was born in Wayne county, Illinois, on October 12th, A.D., 1850 and departed this life May 28th, 1914, age 63 years, 7 months and 18 days.  His parents came from Ohio to Wayne county, Illinois, in the spring of 1850.

He professed faith in Christ when a boy and united with the Baptist church.

In the year of 1869 or near that time he was married to Phebia Pruitt.  To this union two children were born, John Mayo, now in Edwardsville, Ill.; and Mrs. Emma Dehart of Clay City.  After his wife died he was later married to Mary E. Cole, August 15th, 1886.  To this union were born ten childrenThree having passed away when small.  The rest are living as follows:  Mrs. Minnie Porter, Pontiac, Ill.; Rossie Mayo, Mrs. Dora Yoho, Mrs. Cora Shreeves, Noble Mayo, Eva Mayo, Elsie Mayo, all living in Wayne county; also three sisters, Mrs. Francis McCormick, Rinard, Ill., Mrs. Rebecca Pruitt, Flora, Ill.; Mrs. Della Bailey, Centralia, Ill.; and one brother, Harvey Mayo of Cisne, Ill.; and a host of friends remain mourning his departure.  Mr. Mayo’s illness was of short duration.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove church, Sunday, May 31st, by Rev. Wm. Barringer, after which he was laid at rest in the new cemetery at Pleasant Grove.  Gone but not forgotten.  In his death the wife loses a true companion, the children a loving father, his brother and sisters a dear brother and his neighbors a true friend and loyal citizen.
