Well-Known Fairfield Woman

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Creighton, well-known Fairfield woman, were held Wednesday afternoon from Nale's Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating, assisted by Rev. John Lappin.  Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Creighton died at the age of 82 at Memorial hospital early Monday morning from causes incident to her advanced age.  She was the widow of James Creighton.

Attending the funeral from a distance were:  G. H. Bond, of Delavan; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brian, of St. Francisville; Luther R. Bobbett, of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Bessie McCracken, of Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Mathis and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pritchard, of Peoria; Wesley Creighton and Louis Creighton, of Decatur; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Johnson, of Carmi; Mrs. Burl Derry, Mrs. Lester Derry Mrs. Herschel Thominson, Mrs. Martha Stevens, Mrs. Iva Puckett and Mrs. Dollie Scott of Mt. Vernon; Mr. and Mrs. James Gaither, Jr., of Bowling Green, Ky.; Hortense Pritchard, of Olney; and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Creighton, of Detroit, Mich.

Favorite verses from "Gradatim" by J. G. Holland were treasured in her heart and often spoken of in her conversation.  They are:

Heaven is not gained by a single bound;
But we build the ladder by which we rise
>From the lowly earth to the vaulted skies,
And we mount its summit round by round.
I count this thing to be grandly true,
That a noble deed is a step toward God -
Lifting the soul from the common clod
To a purer air and a broader view.

Card of Thanks

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our many friends and neighbors for their many kind expressions of sympathy during our recent bereavement.  And especially the nursing staff at Memorial hospital,   Dr. Ransom and Dr. Hubble and also the Ladies Aid of the First Christian church.  Your kindnesses will be long remembered.
