SKETCH OF JOEL DALTON

Joel, son of James G. and Rosa C. Dalton, was born near Mt. Erie, May 14th, 1872.  He grew to manhood and had spent his life in the vicinity of his birth, where he had been engaged as a farmer,and stockman, and for many years was one of the substantial and highly respected citizens of Mt. Erie township.

He was converted at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist church under the ministry of Rev. Fred Lappin and Rev. Isom Simpson December 20, 1917.  He served this congregation faithfully from that time, having served in the capacity of deacon for many years.  He was faithful in attendance at all the services of the church and took great delight in the work of the Master.

He was united in marriage with Bertie Riggs, March 15th, 1906.  Three children were born to this union.

For several months he had been in poor health, and he passed away at his home Thursday morning, February 13th, 1947, age 74 years, 8 months and 29 days.

He is suvived by his faithful companion, two sons, Bernice and Russell, both of Salem; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Fehr, of Springfield; one brother, Dan, of Mt. Erie; five grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Pleasant Hill church Saturday afternoon, February 15th, by Rev. Roy Collins.   Interment was in the Brown cemetery.
