PETE  BOOK
DIES IN OLNEY

Highly Respected Young Man,
Son of Late George Book,
Suffered Blood Poison
From Influenza.

Pete Book, Wayne county's deputy sheriff and son of Mrs. Martha Book, of this city, passed away about four o'clock Saturday morning in the Olney sanitarium.

He had been confined there seven days, suffering with a septicemic or blood poisoning condition resulting from influenza.  He was stricken at his home about two weeks ago.  On Saturday, April 24th, he was taken to the hospital and for a time his condition showed some improvement, but he grew worse Friday and became steadily weaker until death.

The remains were returned to the Nale Funeral Home here, and kept until the funeral hour.  Services were conducted at three o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland Presbyterian church by Rev. W. C. Arnold, of Carmi.  Rev. J. T. Coleman assisted.  Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.

Mr. Book was the son of the late George Book, former Wayne county treasurer.  He spent most of his life on a farm south of Fairfield.   Several months ago Sheriff Earnest Burkett appointed him deputy, succeeding Fred H. Clark, resigned.  Mr. Book had performed a genuine service to the county in this capacity.

Pete Book, son of George J. and Martha Book was born at Merriam, Illinois, March 2nd, 1900 and departed this life at Olney, Illinois, May 1st, 1937, age 37 years, 1 month and 30 days.

He was married June 9th, 1923 to Miss Minnie Potter and unto them was born one daughter, Helen Ruth who died in infancy, and one son, who died at birth.

He was a member of the New Hope General Baptist church and at the time of his death he was deputy sheriff of Wayne county in which capacity he had served several months and had made a fine record as a public official.

In his passing, the community loses one of its best citizens.

He is survived by a loving wife, his mother, two brothers: Roy of Cleveland, Ohio, and Berlin of Barnhill and four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Lasater of Champaign, Mrs. Mary Lasater and Miss Marjorie Book of Fairfield, and Mrs. Alice Sork of Anderson, Indiana and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
