MRS. E. E. ROBERTS

Carrie Josephine (Thompson) Roberts, daughter of the late Charles E. and Barbara E. Thompson, was born November 3, 1877 at Mt. Erie, and passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, while breakfasting at Harrison, Ark. on February 27th, as she and her husband, Dr. E.E. Roberts and A.E. Frazier were enroute home from an enjoyable time of vacationing which lasted through several weeks of travel in the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas.

Mrs. Roberts parents and an infant brother passed away when she was just a child, after which she made her home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Young, and Miss Phoebe Young, until she reached womanhood. On May 1, 1898, a marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. J.W. Borah, at which time Miss Thompson became the happy bride of Edwin E. Roberts, of Fairfield. There were no children born to this union, but four were taken into the home upon whom Mrs. Roberts did her best to bestow a love that would be comparable to true mother love.

Mrs. Roberts became a baptised believer in Christ, at the age of 14, and was affiliated with the Methodist church at Mt. Erie, until her marriage to Dr. Roberts, when, together, they united with the Christian church, to which they have been both loyal and faithful continually. Mt. Erie, Ill., Cisne, Ill., Gilbert, Arkansas, San Fernando, Calif., and West Salem, Ill. have shared the kind and faithful services of Dr. Roberts in his practice of medicine, and while located in those various places,

Mrs. Roberts always busied herself in the fine art of Christian living, and serving, thus leaving many intimate friends who are enriched with the precious memories of her kindly touch. Besides her devoted husband, Mrs. Roberts leaves several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church in West Salem on Tuesday afternoon, March 2nd, by Elder Homer Longbons. Burial was held in the Fairfield Maple Hill cemetery.
