Mary Ruth Wingert, 81, of Springfield died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at her son's home.

She was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Fairfield, the daughter of Lawrence and Melvina Creighton Sunderland.  She married Warren E. Wingert in 1936; he died in 1978.  Two brothers, Kinzie and Joe Sunderland, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wingert was a longtime employee of the state, serving various departments from 1930 to 1976.  Her last position was administrative assistant to the director of the McFarland Zone Center; then she retired.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Warren S. and Stephen E., both of Dallas, and Robert J. of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. David Myers officiating.  Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.  Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
