Mrs. Grace P. Childress
Dies At Jerseyville
Retired Wayne County school teacher.  Mrs. Grace P. Childress, 95, of Jerseyville, a former Fairfield and Goldengate resident, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. 1984, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home at Jerseyville.

She was the widow of Robert 0. Childress.  Mrs. Childress moved from the Fairfield area several years ago.

Services Held
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev.  Leroy Hudson officiating.  Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Born in Wayne County Mar. 14, 1889, Mrs. Childress was the daughter of Hugh and Jane C. (Gaston) Parkinson.

Mrs. Childress was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School at one time.  She was previously a member of Goldengate United Methodist Church for 50 to 60 years.

She belonged to the Eastern Star and was a charter member of the DAR here.

The Survivors

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Lowell Childress, of Roodhouse; and Dr. Ed Childress. of Buffalo Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Wharton, of East Alton; and Mrs. Margaret Openheimer, of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to Goldengate United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
