OBITUARY

ZADOC CASEY ROBERTS

was born in Wayne county, Ill., Aug. 13th, 1832, and died at 6 o'clock, p.m., July 24th, 1891.  When about 19 years of age he was converted at a  camp meeting held at Big Prairie, White county, and shortly afterward joined the M.E. church, of which he was a consistent member until his death.  He has held the offices of class leader,  superintendent of Sunday School, steward and trustee both of church and parsonage; the latter office he held at the time of his decease.  He was always ready to help all the benevolent enterprises of the church, both with his means and influence.

He enlisted in Company D, 87th Illinois Volunteers on his 30th birthday, 1862, and being elected third sergeant served in that capacity until the close of the war.

During the latter part of his illness he suffered greatly, but he bore it as becomes a soldier and Christian, placing his trust in Him who had ever been his guide in times of suffering and danger.

At the time of his marriage he had nine brothers and sisters, all but two of whom, Dr. E.B. Roberts, of Mt. Erie, and N.E. Roberts of Fairfield, preceded him to the better world.  He leaves a wife and ten  children to mourn their loss.  "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, for their works do follow them." J.W. Locke
