IRA W. WEAVER
Former Wayne
County Man Is
Blizzard Victim

Ira W. Weaver
Nephew of Mrs. T.J. Shehorn
Frozen While Hunting.

Ira W. Weaver, nephew of Mrs. T.J. Shehorn of this city and cousin of Walter W. Weaver, was the victim of a blizzard near Spur Lake, New Mexico, November 29, according to a message received by the relatives recently. The body of the unfortunate man was not recovered until December 8.

Mr. Weaver, who was aged 40, was accompanied by a young man, Elmer Wade, on the hunting trip. Both men lost their lives in the terrific storm, which caught them only about a mile and a half from their homes. Due to the fact that the roads in that section were blocked with snow, relatives in the same community were unable to attend the funeral.

According to advices, Mr. Weaver’s ankle gave way as he was returning from the hunting trip. The young man built a shelter for him by a log and then tried to find the way home, but couldn’t in the storm and went back and fell exhausted by Mr. Weaver.

Mr. Weaver and his companion were found in a gorge where the snow was very deep. The young man had stood his gun against a tree higher up and the snow melted away from it, or the two bodies would probably not have been found until spring.

Ira was laid away December 12, in the cemetery by the school house on a ridge among the pine trees he loved so well.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Weaver of Liberal, Kansas, his wife and three sons; three brothers, W.H. Weaver of Liberal, Kansas, Archie Weaver of Wichita, Kansas, and Charles Weaver of Manter, Kansas, and two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Pittman of Liberal, Kansas, and Mrs. Nellie Stone of Canton, Missouri.
