MELVINA BARNARD

Melvina, daughter of Alfred and Sally Henson, was born in Wayne County, June 27, 1861. She was united in October 4, 1885. Seven children were born to this union, two of whom died in early childhood.

Her entire life has been spent in and near the Bailey Community in Wayne County, where she reared her family and with her companion and children she contributed to the development and progress of this section of the county. Her life will long be remembered by those who knew her and her memory will be a rich heritage to her loved ones. In early womanhood she united with the General Baptist Church at Bailey and remained a faithful member of this congregation during her life.

For several years she has not enjoyed good health and since the passing of her companion last May 28th, her condition grew steadily worse and the end came peacefully at the home of her son, Ralph, Tuesday afternoon, November 24, 1942, age 81 years, four month and twenty-seven days.

She is survived by four sons, Edgar, Lewis, Ralph and Elmer and one daughter, Mahala Ferguson all of this community, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends, who will mourn her passing.

Funeral services were conducted from the Bailey Church, Thursday morning, November 26th, by Rev. Guy Roney. Interment was in the Bailey cemetery.
