Father Of Fairfield Woman Dies; Rites Held At Albion

Richard M. (Bud) Crackel, 81, of Albion, died at 8:02 p.m. Monday, June 10, 1996, at Welborn Baptist hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Mr. Crackel died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inflicted earlier that day.

He was a retired farmer and also had worked for the Illinois Highway Department, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Crackel was the father of Mrs. Kenneth L. (Linda) Hodges, of Fairfield.

Funeral services were held from Nale's Funeral Home in Albion Thursday morning (today), with Rev. Richard Schmidt officiating, with burial in Browns Cemetery.  Military rites were conducted at the cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday evening from Nale's in Albion.

He was born at Browns Dec. 17, 1914, the son of Clyde and Bessie Walker Crackel.

On Sept. 27, 1947, he was married to Vonda Grubb, in Henderson, Ky.  She passed away Mar. 28, 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and two infant brothers.

Mr. Crackel was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and VFW and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are one son, Donald Grubb, of Albion, one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth L. (Linda) Hodges, of Fairfield; one brother, Melvin Crackel, of Browns; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
