Roy L. Bird, 80, of Sims, died at 7:25 a.m. Monday, June 10, 1996, at Jeffersonian Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.

He was a retired construction worker.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the York Funeral Home in Wayne City, with Rev Richard McCormick officiating. Interment will be in McGinnus Cemetery at Anna. Visitation at the York Funeral Home will be 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.

He was born in Union County May 8, 1916, the son of Ira E. and Myrtle Hoyle Bird.

On Dec. 5, 1944, in Union County he was married to Lula J. Meyers.

Mr. Bird was a member of the Ellis Mound Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Raymond L. Bird,
of Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Edward K. (Patsy) Saylor, of Richmond, Ind.; and Mrs. Howard (Peggy) McRaven, of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Loyd Bird, of Anna; and Carl Bird, of Elgin; and one sister, Genevie Davis, of Carterville.
