Sister Dies

Mrs. Clarabelle Merritt, 68, of Flora, died at 8:21 a.m. Friday, May 31, 1996, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

She had previously worked at the Murphy Dime Store in Flora.

She was a sister of Ira Merritt, Jr., of Fairfield.

Funeral rites were held Monday from, the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Clayton Coffey officiating. Burial was in Elder Cemetery.

She was born in Kinmundy Feb. 7, 1928, the daughter of Ira G. and Ethel (Courson) Merritt.

In 1946 she was married to Earl August Hassebrock.

Mrs. Merritt was a member of the Meacham Baptist Church at Kinmundy; and the Flora Ladies of the Moose.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are Earl Hassebrock; six sons, Dennis Hassebrock, of Farina; Duane Hassebrock, of Kinmundy; Bill Hassebrock, of LaClede; Rodney and Randy Hassebrock, both of Kinmundy; and Bob Hassebrock, of Alma; eight daughters, Mrs. Kaye Potter, of Farina; Connie Quandt, of Effingham; Terri Butts and Peggy Kulman, both of Farina; Glara Osborne, of Alma; Helen Lacey, of Kinmundy; Carol Hassebrock, of Kinmundy and Michelle Hassebrock, of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Ira Merritt, Jr., of Fairfield; and Leon Merritt, of St. Peter, 27 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
