Earl B. Smith, 82, Dies At Good Sam; Rites Are Held

Earl B. Smith, 82, of Rt. 2 Bluford, died at 6:21 p.m. Monday June 3, 1996, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was retired from The Bridge & Building Dept. of the Illinois Central & Gulf Railroad.

Funeral rites were conducted Thursday (today) from the Hughey Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Buchanan officiating. Interment was in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City. Visitation was held at Hughey's Wednesday evening.

He was born in Jefferson County Dec. 12, 1913, the son of William and Minnie Gilligan Smith.

Mr. Smith was first married to Roberta Withrow on Nov. 22, 1939, at Morganfield, Ky. She died July 21, 1972, and later he was married on May 19, 1973, to Golda Browder Richards at Fairfield.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Golda; a daughter, Mrs. VerDon
(Glenda) Wood, of Wayne City; two sons, Donnie Smith, of Wayne City; and Garry Smith, of Sherwood, Ark.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Paul Richards, Gene Richards and Dennis Richards, all of Belle Rive; three step- daughters, Mrs. Pete (Joan) Clark, Mrs. Don (Janet) Scrivner and Joyce Richards, all Belle Rive; 13
step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Roy Smith and Kenneth Smith, of Wayne City; three sisters, Elsie Coil, of Flora; Jean Potter, of Bluford; and Lorene Donoho, of, Kell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and one brother.
