Former MountErie Minister Dies

Former Mt. Erie United Methodist pastor, Rev. Lowell McDowell, 55, Rt. 6 Newton, died at 10:12 a.m. Saturday Oct. 27, 1984, at Richland Memorial Hospital at Olney.

Rev. McDowell was former minister of the Mt Erie West Enterprise Charge of the United Methodist Church until being re-assigned this past May. He currently pastored three churches in Jasper County-Harlan, Rose Hill and Falmouth. He previously served charges in Beaver Creek, Petrolia, Chauncey, St. Francisville,  Calhoun,  Ullim, and Bone Gap.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Calhoun United Methodist Church, Calhoun, with Rev. Ray Porter and Rev. Jesse Bellamy officiating. Burial was in Crest Haven Cemetery.

Rev. McDowell was born in Clay County Aug. 5, 1929, the son of Nathaniel and Goldie (Luke) McDowell.

He was wed to the former Marie Ridgely June 20, 1954.

Surviving are his wife, Marie McDowell, of Newton, one son, James McDowell, of Calhoun; twobrothers, Charles, of Dundas; and John, of Calhoun, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; and Mrs. Becky Schmuker, of Calhoun; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel McDowell, of Calhoun, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Sue McDowell.
