Mrs. Mabel Esther Calkin Dies In Colorado; Was 73

Mrs. Mabel Esther Calkin, 73, of Johnstown, Colo., died at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo., Friday, Apr. 14, 1995.

She was reared on a farm in the Springerton area and was a sister of Anna  Brown, of Fairfield.

Her death was caused by an aneurysm.

Funeral rites were conducted Wednesday morning from the Johnstown, Colo. Methodist Church, with burial in Johnstown Cemetery. The Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Her husband, George R. Calkin, whom she wed Feb. 23, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo., was a Lt. Colonel in the Army and they lived in the U. S., Germany and Formosa.  After his retirement, they moved to Johnstown in 1977. He passed away Feb. 17, 1991.

She was born in Piggott, Ark., Dec. 9, 1921, the daughter of Rufus and Mary Files.  The youngest of ten children, she was reared in the Springerton area and graduated from high school there.

Mrs. Calkin was a member of the Johnstown United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to that church thru the Stoddard Funeral Home.

Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Black, of Johnstown, Colo.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Brown, of Fairfield.
