Charles Jeffers, 66, Dies

Charles Jeffers. 66, a retired Grayville farmer, formerly of Burnt Prairie, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1983. at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Jeffers suffered from emphysema, diabetes and was forced to retire two years ago, the family said.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Grayville with Bro. Jeff Browning Officiating Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Grayville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home in Grayville.

Mr. Jeffers was born in Leech township, Wayne county, Feb. 12 1917, the son of Charlie and Effie (Roames) Jeffers.

He married the former Wanda Griswold Nov. 13, 1945. in Seattle, Wash. She preceded him in death June 16, 1976.

Mr. Jeffers was a veteran of WW II and served in the Navy aboard the U S.S. San Francisco.

He farmed north of Burnt Prairie until he sold his farm two years ago.

Mr. Jeffers was a member of the Grayville American Legion and the Moose Lodge.

Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Kenneth (Debbie) Henshaw, of Grayville; four sisters Mrs. Rolla (Edna) Reiling and Mrs. Marie French, both of Fairfield; Mrs. Mayme Johnson, of Grayville, and Mrs. Elsie Williams, of Chicago; and one grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
