Walter Wright, 91, Dies

Walter Johnson Wright, 91, a longtime Burnt Prairie businessman, died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 1983, at the Way-Fair Restorium. He was retired .

Mr. Wright was a recent resident of the nursing home here. He previously had lived at the Cisne Manor Nursing Home at Cisne for five years due to ill health.  He had been hospitalized at Fairfield Memorial Hospital several times in the past few y ears.

He owned and operated a general merchandise store in Burnt Prairie for over 50 years before retiring. He was also involved in oil development and tax preparation.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Burnt Prairie with Rev. Wayne Harris officiating. Burial will be in Burnt Prairie cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. Monday (tonight) at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

 Mr. Wright was born southeast of Fairfield Aug. 28. 1892, the son of William Andrew and Sarah Catherine (Johnson) Wright. He was the youngest of nine children and was raised on the family farm known as the Will Andy Wright farm.

He as married to the former Veda Morrison, of Burnt Prairie, Sept. 28, 1911.
Mrs. Wright was a well-known area pianist. She preceded him in death Dec.  20,
1977. They lived their entire marriage in Burnt Prairie.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Burnt Prairie where he taught a Sunday School class for over 50 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 71 years, a Shriner for more than 63 years and belonged to the Ainad Temple.

He is survived by three nephews, Leslie W. Cunningham, of Fairfield; J. D. Caldwell, of Kansas; and William Roy Wright, Jr., of California; four nieces, Mrs. Kay Taverano, of Kansas City, Mo., Gladys Simpson, of Evansville, Ind.; Lucille Munnerlyn and Corrine Elliot, both of Center, Tex.; several e great nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers
