John Albert Akes, Of Xenia, Dies

A retired railroad employee and prison guard, John Albert Akes, 73, of Xenia, died 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 1985, at Flora Nursing Center, Flora.

Mr. Akes previously was employed with the B & O Railroad and as a prison guard at Vandalia Correctional Center. He was the brother of Mrs. Lillian Krutsinger, Mrs. Helen Carrell, and Burl Akes, of Xenia

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with burial in Oddfellows cemetery at Xenia with full military rites.

Visitation is planned from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home

Mr. Akes was born in Xenia April 24, 19l2, the son of Albert and Clela Westcott Akes. He was married to the former Mable Howe at Louisville, who preceded him in death Mar. 2, 1976.

Mrs. Akes was a member of the Flora VFW, American Legion and lifetime member of the Flora Moose.

Survivors include one son, James Poole, of Vidor, Texas; two daughters, Mrs Robert (Mable) Silvey, of Centralia; and Mrs. Davis (Alice) Manon, of Tampieo; three brothers, Burl Akes, of Xenia; Dr. Charles Akes, of Delray Fla.; and Gene Akes, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three sisters Mrs. Lillian Krutsinger and Mrs. Helen Carrell, both of Xenia; Mrs. Don (Mariorie) Merrihew of Flora; and nine grandchildren.
