Arvel Funkhouser, 82, Of Bt. Prairie, Dies

A retired Burnt Prairie farmer, Arvel Funkhouser, 82, died of an apparent; heart attack Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, 1985, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Norma Lynn Shafer, in Rantoul.

Mr. Funkhouser had just finished the noon meal and was on his way to his bedroom when he suffered the heart attack, the Press was told. He and his wife, Veta, left in January to spend several months with their daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Elder Oscar Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery at Centerville.

Visitation will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at Carmi.

Mr. Funkhouser was born in Burnt Prairie township, May 25, 1903, the son of Carroll and Nancy Jane Elliott Funkhouser.

He wed Veta Griffon, Aug. 27, 1927.

Survivors include his wife, Veta Funkhouser, of Burnt Prairie; two sons, Terry Funkhouser, of LaPorte, Texas; Lyle Funkhouser, of Okemos, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Lynn Shafer, of Rantoul; Mrs. Wilma Brommel, of Clinton; three brothers, Ernest Funkhouser, of Princeton, Ind., Archie Funkhouser, of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; Carroll Funkhouser, of Carmi; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Henson, Mrs. Stella Vaupel and Mrs. Grace Kimbrell, all of Carmi; 13 grandchildren; and four-great-grandchildren.
