Former Wayne County Resident Dies In South

A former Wayne County resident, Ted W. Fildes, 82, of Portland, Tenn., died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1985, of pneumonia.

Mr. Fildes was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Edna Walker, of Fairfield; and Mrs. Chloe Walker, of Cisne.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in Portland, Tenn.

Mr. Fildes was born Jan. 23, 1903, in Elm River Township, the son of Joseph R. and Alice Bell Walker Fildes. He married Cora Fitch in that community in 1925. He later married the former Pam Williams in 1954.

Mr. Fildes was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where he held the position of Deacon.

He was employed as a construction worker and a farmer until his retirement.

Among survivors are his wife, Pam Fildes; one son, Ralph, of Merritt Island, Fla.; six daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elva) Swinson, of Collegedale, Tenn.; Mrs. Amos (Elsie) Harrelson, of Winter Park, Fla.; Mrs. Ray (Ida Jane) Seals. of Ellijay, Ga.; Mrs. Lynn (Bernadine) Tiller and Mrs. Charles (Agnes) Garrett. both of Mechanicville, Va.; and Mrs. Paul (Kay) Taylor, of West Salem; one sister, Mrs. Mamie Walker, of Clay City; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Edna Walker, of Fairfield, and Mrs Chloe Walker, of Cisne; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; six step-brothers and one step-sister.
