GILBERT BUTLER

Gilbert Butler was born in Wayne county, Illinois, Aug. 12, 1872, and died in an automobile, accident near Mill Shoals Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, 1934, at the ‘age of 62 years, 2 months and 11 days.
 
Mr. Butler was a spanish-AmerIcan War soldier. He was a member of Co. L Ninth Illinois Volunteer Infantry under the captaincy of Captain Couch. He enlisted June 28. 1898, and was mustered out May 20, 1899, at Augusta, Ga, Much of the time while in Cuba he was sick, which resulted in a partial loss of his sight, rated by the government at a 60 percent loss of vision.

He did some interior service while in the war zone.

On Sept. 22, 1911,  he was married to Miss Anna Redman of Albion, Illinois.  Mrs. Butler preceded him in death seven weeks, dying on Aug. 31 of this year. They lived their entire married life with his mother, Mrs. Bell Bigger, whose home is 4 miles south of Fairfield.

Besides his aged mother, Mrs. BelI Bigger, he leaves to mourn their loss one uncle, Edward Butler of Mill Shoals, one cousin, Mrs. Gertrude Butler Campbell of Chicago, a few distant relatives, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H, H. Robison or Thursday afternoon, Oct. 25, at the home.  Burial in the Koontz  cemetery.
