Mrs. Josephine Stroud Dies; Former Wayne City Woman

Josephine A. (Laird) Stroud, 76, Mt. Vernon, former Wayne City resident, died at 12: 08 p.m., Dec. 11, 1988 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.  She died from a heart attack following surgery last Friday to treat a blood
clot condition and hardening of the arteries.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, the Rev. Buss Hart officiating, with burial in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Visitation is Monday (tonight) from 5-8:00 p.m. at Hughey.

Mrs. Stroud was born on Jan. 19, 1912 in Wayne County, the daughter of John W. and Stella Mae (Morlan) Laird.  On March 1, 1929, she wed Jessie Stroud in Wayne County. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1967. Mr. Stroud was a timber worker in Wayne City, until health prompted them to move to Mt. Vernon about 30 years ago.

Mrs. Stroud was a member of the Casey Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Davis of Fairfield; Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Murphy and Mrs. Jake (Roberta) Sherer, both of Mt. Vernon; one son. Johnie of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Willard (Ruby) Hutchcraft of Wayne City; Mrs. Owen (Thelma) Draper and Mrs. Alberta Alexander, both of Rockford, Ill.; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents. one son, one brother and one sister.
